LIFECODES Transfusion Medicine by Immucor

?Platelets represent a critical component of the body’s clotting function and are one of the most commonly transfused of all blood components. Correct determination of platelet type and the presence of antibody to platelet antigens as a bar to platelet transfusion, provides important information to clinicians and transfusion professionals. With the addition of platelet antibody and platelet typing assays to Immucor’s product portfolio, we continue our mission to provide the best-in-class products that will lead to transfusions that are safe, accessible and affordable.

Antibody Detection Products

LIFECODES MACE1

?LIFECODES MACE1 provides a well-characterized monoclonal antibody immobilized in the microwells which are used to capture the glycoproteins from platelets supplied by the user. This product allows a user to detect and differentiate between antibodies that bind to the platelet-specific glycoproteins. MACE kit provides tests that can be used for either antibody identification (if previously-typed platelets are utilized) or a platelet crossmatch (if potential donor platelets are utilized). 1

  • Discriminates anti-platelet and anti-HLA donor/recipient reactions
  • Cross-match results aid in selection of appropriate platelet units
  • Identifies donor-specific anti-platelet antibodies

LIFECODES Pak Family Products

Platelets express glycoproteins that are polymorphic and can become the targets for antibody responses. Detecting these antibodies offers the clinician the potential to better identify compatible blood products and improve patient care.

LIFECODES Pak Family ELISA Products

The Pak family of products provide well-characterized platelet glycoproteins immobilized either directly and/or captured by monoclonal antibodies to the wells of a microwell plate. The available formats allow a user to detect antibodies that bind to the platelet-specific glycoproteins (IIb/IIIa, Ib/IX, Ia/IIa and IV) and Class I HLA. 1,2,3,4

PakAuto has been designed to detect autoantibodies to patient glycoproteins. These antibodies are eluted from the patient’s own platelets or found circulating in plasma. 5

  • Kits available for both allo and auto platelet antibody detection
  • Differentiate HLA from platelet antibodies
  • Multiple kit formats allow for maximum flexibility

?Donor Screening

LIFECODES DonorScreen-HLA

The presence of pre-existing HLA antibodies in blood donors has been implicated in Transfusion-Related Acute Lung Injury (TRALI) and TRALI-like transfusion reactions in the recipients of blood products from sensitized donors. TRALI is a syndrome that is described as a spectrum of clinical symptoms that occur very rapidly (usually in 1-2 hours) following transfusion with blood products. Occurring in a small number of patients that receive blood products, it remains the leading cause of transfusion-related deaths reported to the Food and Drug Administration.

Screening for HLA antibodies has now been made available to the Blood Bank lab in one convenient kit called LIFECODES DonorScreen-HLA. DonorScreen-HLA has been specifically designed to detect these antibodies in blood donors using the QuickStep automated ELISA processing instrument. 1

  • QuickStep automation allows screening of 176 donor samples for both Class I and Class II HLA antibodies in a single run
  • Most kit reagents are ready-to-use and can be directly placed on the instrument
  • Automation provides walk-away use
  • Can use donor samples stored for up to 96 hours at room temperature in primary collection tube
  • Can use either plasma or sera
  • System accepts eight (8) barcodes at one time, including: Code 128, Code 39, Pharmacode, Codabar
  • Barcoded reagent bottles eliminate set-up mistakes
  • Barcode reading of donor sample tubes provides data traceability

?HPA Genotyping

LIFECODES ThromboType Products
?
The Human Platelet antigens (HPAs) can be targets for alloimmune and autoimmune antibody responses that cause life-threatening bleeding disorders, such as refractoriness to platelet transfusions, post-transfusion purpura and neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia.

LIFECODES ThromboType and ThromboType1 are replacements for platelet serological testing and adjuncts to HLA matching in selecting compatible platelets for alloimmunized recipients. ThromboType contains the reagents necessary to identify an individual’s genotype for HPA-1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 15, using a gel endpoint. ThromboType1 contains the reagents necessary to identify an individual’s genotype for HPA-1 using a gel endpoint. 1,2

  • Less than 100 minutes from DNA to results
  • Bufferless pre-cast gels included
  • Comprehensive typing of the most common HPA alleles

?Red Cell Genotyping

LIFECODES RBC Genotyping

The LIFECODES RBC and LIFECODES RBC-R products 1 utilize Luminex technology in two multiplex assays for the genotyping of red blood cell (RBC) antigen blood groups. The LIFECODES RBC assay consists of highly prevalent single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of 6 blood antigen groups. The LIFECODES RBC-R assay consists of rare SNPs of 9 blood antigen groups.

LIFECODES RBC assay

The LIFECODES RBC assay uses single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) detection by the Polymerase Chain Reaction – Reverse Sequence Specific Oligonucleotide (PCR-RSSO) method. This multiplex assay has been optimized to genotype for the antigens of the following highly prevalent blood groups:

LIFECODES Red Cell EZ Type

LIFECODES Red Cell EZ Type uses allele-specific PCR amplification, with primer sets dried in PCR tubes to resolve incompatibilities that are difficult or impossible to identify by serologic methods.

Bufferless, pre-cast agarose gels (the EZ Type format), improve workflow by eliminating buffer preparation; gel-casting and the wait for gel hardening. A wide selection of kits is available to type for only the specific blood group system(s) needed.

  • Flexible: Choose only the alleles you want to type
  • Convenient: Utilizes pre-cast, bufferless gels
  • Reliable: Established and trusted technology.
